Having attended the launch in November, last week I completed The Virtual Dementia Tour myself at the Churches of Christ in Kenmore.

To say it is confronting is an understatement of the highest order!

As the daughter of someone living with Alzheimer’s dementia, I knew that what I experienced would be upsetting from the perspective of knowing she is living with some if not all of these challenges.

What I had not expected was my own reaction to what I experienced, and it affected me profoundly.

The entire process from when I arrived to prepare through the tour and the debrief that followed, the staff were professional, helpful, sympathetic and informative.

If you are living with someone with dementia; work with someone with dementia; or have customers living with dementia, I HIGHLY recommend that you participate in one of these tours, and if you have staff, that they also attend.

Who do you know that’s just not managing the day to day because of memory problems?

Whether it’s because of dementia, an acquired brain injury or a mental illness – the result is stress and worry for individuals and for families and carers.

We can help!
