Movies that get the Golden Gong for people living with Dementia

As the days go on and my mum's memory and cognitive function deteriorate, it has become clear that she struggles to keep track when we're watching a movie.

I guess if you think about it, it's obvious.

If you can't remember what happened 5 minutes ago, how on earth can you keep up with who's who and what's what in a complicated movie plot?!

My mother was never one for cartoons or kids' movies, but we have discovered that movies created essentially for this market can be just the ticket now.

Not only that, but because she can't remember, we can watch the same movie often and she enjoys it just as much as the first time!

This has got to be the ONLY bonus of living with memory loss!!

To build a list of great movies that we'll feature on our website, I'd like to invite you to contribute to our list of fabbo movies for people living with Dementia.

To start the ball rolling, my personal Golden Gong goes to "Paddington"

It's funny and light-hearted with very clearly depicted characters and a simple story.

We have watched this one at least 5 times now, and every time my mum laughs and laughs - which, as we know, is chemically good for everyone!!

If you're supporting someone with memory loss, what movies have you seen lately that hit the spot?

Please Post your suggestions to our MemBo Noticeboard Facebook page and I'll pop it onto the Resources page of our website for others to share.
